diy name necklace inspired by elim jewelry

hello readers,

i've been seeing the acrylic name necklaces and satc's "carrie" bradshaw necklace pop up randomly.  i don't know if this is a cool thing again but anyway, it made me think of a diy so i figured, why not?  i went off to michael's and bought a couple of things and then headed home for some diy fun.

here's how my diy turned out:

materials needed:
  1. craft wire or picture hanging wire $2.00
  2. necklace chain $2.00
  3. needle nose pliers
  4. wire cutter
  5. jump rings $1.00
  6. lobster clasp $1.00
  7. scratch paper and pencil
  8. 30 minutes
  9. total cost if you go out and purchase & use michael's coupon:  approximately $5.50 (total cost for me approximately $4.50) and you'll be able to make about 5 name necklaces for you and your friends!
directions:

i didn't take a photo but you should draw out your name before you start to twist and tangle the wire.  this will help you determine where you need to make loops :] i didn't draw it out initially and of course totally screwed up bending and creasing parts of the wire (so i started over with new wire).

hope you enjoyed this semi-photo tutorial!

  1. Love it. I may try to do this to make the names on the hangers for wedding day. Have you seen those on etsy?
